River Cam
Upware - Cambridgeshire
Our River Cam fishery in Upware is a fine venue to enjoy a days fishing for roach and bream.
Situated North East of Cambridge, in rural fenland, this meadow fishery has very accessible banks, thanks to the grazing cattle keeping the grass down and getting into the river to drink.
It runs about 6 or 7 feet deep in parts, yet has some shallower water around the lock area. There is some eel-grass which doesn’t pose major problems. As well as roach and bream, it’s a decent predator venue, including Zander.
A few tench have been reported in summer around Lilly-padded areas. Not too much flow happens on the lock stretch.
There is some boat traffic, as it is also near a quay… And the ‘Five Miles From Anywhere Inn’ if you need refreshment – on the opposite bank.
This venue is predominantly roach fishing venue normally slow with good depth in the margins they can produce good bags in winter or summer. At times big bags of bream are found other fish include chub, perch, zander, and pike. It can be less accessible than Upware, as it is deep in rural farmland
