Bures Lake - Bures, Essex
Situated on the picturesque Essex/Suffolk border, Bures Lake is a secluded mixed fishery snuggled alongside the River Stour. A renowned tench fishing mecca of the 70’s and 80’s, Bures is still a top venue, and large specimens can still be had. Big Bream, Carp, Roach and Rudd are also plentiful., offering something for everyone.
Bures has also enjoyed some major investment recently with extra specimen stock and the introduction of an otter-proof fence, making this venue one of the most progressive in the Stour Valley. 32 Platforms are available, some with disabled access, and plenty of secure parking – Plus a Portaloo.
Night Fishing is permitted at no extra cost.

Hemingford Grey Pit, Cambridgeshire
Night fishing with 3 Rods is the preferred method, but be prepared to wait for the fish. In the meantime enjoy the beautiful surroundings of this special place, which is very accessible from the M11 by car.

Stollies Lake - Theydon Mount, Essex
If you prefer you fishing more thick and fast, then Stollies is the preferred venue from our list of lakes. A 20 peg match lake stocked full of fish, you are never far away from a margin to bag up on carp. Although the average size of the carp is approximately 8lb, there are a few larger over 20lb, and many high quality F1’s to keep your landing net wet in the colder months. This small lake has enjoyed stockings of big Bream and Roach recently, and the odd tench is also caught around the lily pads in the summer months.
The fishing is comfortable, with the opportunity to park your car right up to your platform, which makes it suitable for older anglers and disabled anglers. It is also another one of our lakes that has a portaloo. People new to angling will love this venue. It is also a good spot for a couple of summer evening hours with a few slices of bread.
Glemford Pits - Glemford, Essex
Glemsford is a complex of 3 mature gravel pits, and a stretch of the River Stour, which all offer wild fishing and fantastic wildlife. In it’s entirety, Glemsford Pits is a Site of Scientific Interest.
Although Fishing for Carp and Tench is hard, the large population of Roach and Rudd provide a good habitat for predators, especially in Pit 1. Recently, this pit has been prolific with pike, with 26 caught in one week averaging double figures. Over the years the odd Zander has also appeared in the pits, which may have occurred from flooding. Anglers have also seen the average size of the Rudd increased.
As with most mature gravel pits, huge Tench, Pike, Carp and Bream will be present in small quantities. However, Glemsford is generally most appreciated because of it’s idyllic peaceful surroundings.

Glemsford No: 2 is currently closed for essential works and should hopefully be open at the beginning of next season (2024/2025)
